THE FASHION WEEK DIARIES: PARIS SPRING 2020 DAY TWO COMMENCES WITH A STUNNING SHOW FROM LOEWE.

Paris Spring Summer 2020

A fashion week diary

Loewe Spring 2020

The atmosphere at Loewe was stunning, with giant crystals setting an ethereal tone. I sent my daughters photos of the set, and they were delighted as they are all about anything crystal at the moment. My absolute favorite look from the show was the white dress, which was heavenly in its construction and in the detailing of the lace. JW Anderson and stylist Benjamin Bruno work so well together, and I could see Benjamin’s voice in harmony with JW’s in the clothing, as I know him from my days with Carine. Loewe is everything that I love, inspiration in contrast, the playfulness between masculine and feminine cut with a futuristic vibe, and just a touch of romanticism without being overdone. A very curated and special experience.

I then went to see my friend Julie di Libran to catch up at her amazing apartment. She will be showing a new collection at couture week, and teased us with her new colors and fabrics.

Balmain Spring 2020

The day continued at Balmain, in the beautiful Opera de Paris with its frescoed ceiling, ornate architecture, and black and white floor. The setting was both contrasted in the monotone brightness of some of the collection, and echoed in black and white looks elsewhere. My favorite piece was Look 77, an oversized denim blazer with an 80’s inclination, and Look 95.

Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2020

Alexandre Vauthier is such a kind person, and his team indulged me in trying on so many wonderful pieces. I feel that Vauthier is someone who is not as recognized as he should be. His dresses are made to make women feel sexy, and there is something to be said for that certain sultry look which is not overstated, the kind that brings out our best attributes in a classy and powerful way. I love wearing his dresses at night, especially in Paris. Vauthier himself is discreet, and so humble, bordering on shy which can be a rarity in this industry. I selected a suiting look to lend, which I’ve opted to wear as separates, pairing the suit jacket with soft silk pants from the collection.

I then met with my friend and colleague from InStyle, Sam Broekema, who is becoming my favorite fashion week lunch partner. We went to Le Castiglione, which is a mandatory stop on any trip here, as it was one of my favorite restaurants during my Paris days. What I love about being able to spend time with my InStyle team in between shows during each fashion week, is how after a year we have become closer and our relationships have developed from coworkers to professional friends and then blossomed into a supportive work family dynamic.

Celine Spring 2020

After a lovely lunch, I ran to Celine where Hedi Slimane showed a very 70s infused collection with strong boot cut denim, silk dresses, and shearling jackets all very reminiscent of the French It-Girl style of that time. I love a good boot cut, and the finale silk dress with sequined detailing was had an effortless but luxurious and chic vibe.
