Joseph Altuzarra Spring 2020
Sophisticated, stripped down but elegant. I loved the boots, and the shoes finished off the looks with a grounding, contrasting element which is an element I love to play on in my own work. My friend Melanie Huynh and her partner Vanessa Traina also do an amazing job in their consulting with the brand. Altuzarra managed to weave family heritage, sustainability (by bringing back previous suiting), and a retro sensibility into an elevated yet welcoming collection.
Cédric Charlier Spring 2020
With an Americana theme, the western leaning vibe was on point and I especially loved the Charlier take on cowboy slingbacks. It is always a pleasure to see designers outside of the major calender doing their thing and doing it well. Especially taking a western inspired theme and working it into a story that enhances a collection, rather than making the collection fit a trope.
After Cédric Chalier it was off to Hermes, passing by the big wheel of the Jardin d’Acclimatation, an amusement park at the border of Bois de Boulogne, a place that my kids absolutely adore.
Hermes Spring 2020
The standout for me from Nadege Vanhee-Cybluski (let alone the fact that she just had a daughter this summer), were the leather looks and the Parisian artisanship that was so deftly applied. The 90s inspired yet architectural new bag silhouettes were also a highlight. I especially enjoyed a white leather pant look with a late 80s feel. Overall, a wonderfully clean and polished collection.
Métier London Dinner
I love Métier, and Melissa Morris is a wonderful designer in that she really takes into account the journey of a piece in her design process. Hosted at Divellec, the evening felt intimate and close, and I will always accept an invitation from Sarah Byworth, as she organizes the most enjoyable events.
We ended up continuing on to the Ritz bar, and whenever you stay out with a group after an event and continue the night, you know you are in good company. It seemed like the place to be as I also ran into the designers of Rianna and Nina.
