The rooftop bars you need to visit before summer ends.

New Yorkers know that a great rooftop is a summer must, and we are some of the best at savoring our chance to drink under the stars well into September (in some cases October, weather permitting). Unique and fun to explore, rooftops are the city’s equivalent to a quick relaxing getaway from the hot streets and sticky subways below. So, as the countdown to colder weather begins, here are five of our favorite rooftop haunts to help make the most of the summer heat.

1. GALLOW GREEN

At Gallow Green, located atop the McKittrick Hotel, the attraction is not just a stunning view. Entering this rooftop is like walking into a storybook forest placed in the middle of Chelsea Meatpacking. The cocktail bar is perfect for large groups or casual first dates. The bartenders are friendly, and their mixology is creative, so I chose an adventurous Vodka, Elderflower and Butterfly-Pea flowers cocktail. The McKittrick Hotel is also home to the immersive theatrical experience Sleep No More. Gallow green offers a pre-fix dinner menu to theatre goers for a full experience.

2. RESTORATION HARDWARE

Restoration Hardware (R.H.) has been the talk of the city this summer. Originally known as a luxury furniture store, R.H. expanded into a lifestyle brand by opening a very chic rooftop restaurant atop its NYC flagship location. Entering the rooftop, guests are greeted with gorgeous chandeliers, greek statues, and an airy open spice lined with perfectly manicured hedges. In true R.H. style, the rooftop culminates in a beautifully designed space that extends to the menu from the owner of Au Cheval. Heads up — there is a standing no reservation policy, however we recommend leaving your name and grabbing a glass of rose one floor down at the cafe.

3. SERRA BY BIRRERIA

Eataly does an amazing job of keeping things interesting at their rooftop restaurant. This summer at Serra Fiorita the décor is a sky of pink flowers paired with arches of climbing roses reminiscent of an Italian countryside garden. Upon arrival, guests are met with the scent of fresh flowers and a busy restaurant & bar working in harmony. The restaurant is located on top of Eataly, making the menu delectable and of course, Italian. Try to snag a table after having a few drinks at the bar.

4. SUMMERLY AT THE HOXTON

A tropical paradise in the middle of Williamsburg, Summerly at the Hoxton boasts a true “theme” that feels like a fusion of Havana and the Beverly Hills Hotel. This location is the perfect place to grab a bite with friends or co-workers overlooking the city skyline. For ultimate summer vibes ask your host for a cabana under the tassel umbrellas.

5. SOHO HOUSE

Soho House is a New York City classic, and one of the very few rooftops with pool access. If you are lucky enough to snag a cabana, Soho house can feel like a relaxing vacation in the midst of NYC. It is truly a place for close friends to sunbathe over a drink or snack, or get some coworking done poolside for an office escape. The new Dumbo location has an amazing view of the Manhattan Skyline, and is a true destination for a getaway without venturing far.
